The MSUM Dragon swimming and diving team will be finishing their season in the next couple of weeks. Looking back on their season, head coach Todd Peters said that the team has performed well.
The team is currently 4-0 in duals and will be sending several athletes to the national tournament.
“We’re almost done with the season,” Peters said. “Our conference meet is next week already, and this is definitely the most important meet of the year for us. This is the chance for us to qualify for nationals. There would be no better way to end the season than with a win in the conference meet and adding more members to nationals.”

From rivals to roommates, MSUM men’s basketball players Jake Driscoll and Andrew VanHavermaet have had a long friendship that started on opposite sides of the court.
Competing in the same high school basketball conference, the Heart of Lakes conference, they battled twice a year. Driscoll played with Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School and VanHavermaet with Hawley High School.

As the indoor track season begins, the team has started strong with several athletes earning NSIC athlete of the week awards and national qualifications.
One such athlete, senior Anthony Enyi, won the weight throw event with an automatic qualifying mark as he broke the MSUM school record and the Bison Sports Arena record at the Jan. 17 Bison Classic.
Enyi said that he was excited about the accomplishment and attributed his achievements to the help of fellow athletes and the coaching staff.

After a tough 65-68 loss on Friday to Winona State, the Dragons came back Saturday ready to play, destroying Upper Iowa 91-67.
“Our loss to Winona was disappointing,” head coach Karla Nelson said. “We made a couple of mistakes that cost us the game, but we played well. Upper Iowa was a good team effort. We had 24 team assists to 12 turnovers and good rebounding. Overall, it was a great game; hopefully we can carry that over to this weekend.”

After a disappointing weekend, the Dragons wrestling team hopes to work harder in the practice room and improve their technique in preparation for three upcoming duals with nationally ranked teams.
The Dragons travel to take on 11th ranked Upper Iowa today at 7 p.m. Tomorrow they wrestle 12th ranked MSU Mankato. The team returns home next week to take on 9th ranked St. Cloud State.
Head coach Kris Nelson said that the upcoming duals against national-level teams will be difficult ones to win.
“Our next three matches are going to be pretty tough,” Nelson said. “I know we are facing some tough competition. I told the team that if we get beat, I’m not going to be disappointed in them as long as they are working hard in the practice room and giving it 100 percent, and I’ve been disappointed so far this season.”

The Dragon men’s basketball team ended a three game losing streak Saturday defeating Minnesota Crookston 84-76.
While the team ultimately won the game, they had problems getting started. Crookston started the game with five unanswered points. After this, the game seemed pretty one-sided as the Dragons continued to fall throughout the first half. At one point the Golden Eagles were up by 19. The Dragons were able to cut the lead to 10 in the last three minutes of the half, but they still had a ways to go to get the win.
The second half was better for the Dragons as they went on to take the lead for good with 2:27 remaining in play.
With the win, the Dragons rose to 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC.
